WORLD SERIES BASEBALL STAR BLANCHARD DIES

New York Yankees baseball legend Johnny Blanchard has died after suffering a heart attack.

Blanchard, who played in five consecutive World Series for the team, died on Wednesday in North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He was 56.

The left-handed hitter played primarily in the Major Leagues as an outfielder and catcher until 1965.

He is best remembered for a heroic play in the 1961 World Series, when he hit two home runs against the Cincinnati Reds.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Tim, Paul and John; and six grandchildren.
